The Twins’ Personalities & A Writing Wrap Up

Last Week at 34 Weeks
Last Week at 34 Weeks

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s an absolutely gorgeous day here in Louisiana. There’s just something about the sunshine and birds chirping that just really gets me in a happy mood!

I’m 35 weeks pregnant with the twins today. The picture on the left is me at 34 weeks last week. I should probably snap a picture today too while I’m still feeling pretty good! 🙂

Despite having two fully grown kiddos in my bellah conspiring against me, I think I’m hanging in there pretty well! It’s a little surreal knowing they will be here soon.

Over the last 9ish months, I realized I haven’t particularly loved or hated being pregnant. Some women say they love every minute of it. I can’t really say that, but now that I’m close to the end and I watch them dance and move my belly on their own, I realize why some women miss it.

I’ve been really trying to soak things in the past few days and process it all and appreciate the blessings that have been given to us. This will likely be my only pregnancy (although, never say never right?) and it’s strange knowing that this could be the last time I feel a tiny human saying hi to me from the inside. For example, this week I learned the twins really like the word “Pop!” I’m not sure how it started, but when I say that word, they get a real wiggle fest going on.

The twins definitely have different and distinct personalities and react to different things. My son loves his daddy’s voice. He can be pretty still but when hubs talks to him, he starts moving a lot. My daughter loves music and just dancing around in there in general. I put on violin music, and the right side of my stomach where she is starts twirling – not kicking but distinctly and slowly moving around. My daughter’s legs are long according the the ultrasound, and the tech was teasing the hubs about it yesterday. He told the tech he already knew he was in trouble with her. We’re thankful she’ll have her brother to keep all the boys away. 🙂

The hubs and I have been busy getting things ready for the babies. He is in full on nesting mode and has been doing more cleaning, folding clothes, and fixing up things around the house than I have. I’m trying to take it easy and get a lot of blogging work done. I’ve also enjoyed some nice treats like getting my nails done and going on a few dates with the hubs:

Also, the last time I did a writing wrap up, I told you hubs had to take a really big board exam. As evidenced by the pics above, he is finished with his test! Everything went well, and he is so happy to be done. I even snuck some notes in his lunch so he would get a pep talk from the babies during the long 8 hour exam:

  1. Love the pink and blue nails. Too cute! And your descriptions of the twins is so adorable. This whole post is way too cute for me to handle.

  2. How babies react in the womb still freaks me out, in the coolest of ways! Hope you’re enjoying this last bit of time before their arrival.

  3. LOVED being pregnant the first time…I started it out at my thinnest weight in my life and I was convinced I was having a boy because I carried just a perfectly round belly. So I felt really sexy actually…strange I know!

My second was a total surprise and I was pregnant again within 9 months…I had not lost the weight from the prior pregnancy and I was just miserable. Everything hurt…This will be tmi but I felt like I was carrying a bowling ball with my privates!

Do the twins remain on the same side through the whole pregnancy? I’m fascinated, wondering how you know which is which?

    1. Haha I can relate to the bowling ball issue. 😉 With fraternal twins, you can tell what side they are on since they implant and sort of claim their space early on. I’ve known which side they’re on since about 20 weeks or so. They don’t criss cross since they are sort of attached to their own placentas on their own sides. With identical twins sharing a sac and/or a placenta, I would imagine it would be really hard to tell who was who but with these kiddos A has been on my left and B has been on my right the whole time. 🙂

      1. And there’s my “learned something new” for today. That is cool that you can tell who’s who. There are times where I get phantom flutters that remind me of the babies moving around…my last baby was five years ago! It’s weird. As of august I will have two in elementary school! I know everyone says it but it goes by so fast. I have one bin of baby clothes that were my favorites…someday I hope to make baby blankets for my grand kids. I was in it the other day and pulled out a shirt that my oldest wore in some family pictures we did when she was 4 months old. I held the shirt up to her and it looked like a bib!

I know you have your blog to help you record time but something I wish I did earlier was write to my kids. I have journals for each of them that I use. I like to write letters to them every once in awhile and hope to give them their letters when they go off to college someday! I never got into the whole baby book thing!

        1. I really love that idea. I enjoy writing, and I’ve written them a few notes thus far, but I love the idea of continuing the tradition!!! I can’t believe how fast 35 weeks has gone by so I can only imagine time just speeds up once they get here!

    1. Good question! I have seen them almost every other week this whole pregnancy in about 20+ ultrasounds. Once they get to be a certain size as fraternal twins, they stay on their own sides. So I know my boy is on my left and my girl is on my right. They do not switch sides. They’re anchored down by the place they implanted. Identical twins are different but these two have their own spots. 🙂

  4. So glad he is done with his boards! Enjoy and relax 🙂 I remember the feeling when my husband finished and even though I hadn’t taken the test myself it was such a relief and we had a blast enjoying so much free time!

I love that you can tell your twins already have such distinct personalities 🙂

  5. Look at that tiny belly! You look great! I can tell you that I hate being pregnant but I’m looking forward to getting pregnant for my third round. Even though I don’t like it (probably due to the lack of control thing….I’m such a control freak), I miss it terribly when I’m not pregnant. That’s probably why I started 2012 pregnant and ended it pregnant. I just couldn’t wait to have my next kid…lol.

I can’t wait to see pics of your little ones! 🙂

    1. Haha that’s awfully nice of you to say Jessi because I feel prettttyyyy big haha. I like to be in control as well. I think it’s the hardest part of this whole thing! So excited that you might have #3 soon! 😀

  6. It’s interesting how they both have different personalities and how you can know so much about them before they are even born. It’s also crazy how soon they will be here. Seems like just yesterday you announced you were having twins! I really appreciate you mentioning my post and I hope you have a great weekend!

  7. I can totally relate to the hubs nesting issues. I made sure our house was spotless before our first arrived. After that, for the other three, it didn’t seem to matter as much.

  8. Man, this brings back memories! I remember our walks from that time. Because Cheryl couldn’t fit behind the wheel of a car that was the only thing we could do unless I drove her somewhere.

  9. Thank you so much for sharing. All of the personal touches from your nails to your growing belly, it’s clear that you’re very happy, which makes reading your posts easy and enjoyable. Also, I really like being able to use your post for other recommended reading – thanks for providing those links.

  10. I really enjoy these updates, Cat! I’m glad everything is going so well with the pregnancy, and that your hubs finished the exams. Those nails are pretty cool, too. 🙂

  11. Love the pink and blue nails! Glad to hear things are going well for your pregnancy. I love that you’re playing classical music for the babes! I can’t even imagine what its like to have them dancing around in your belly, goodness! 🙂

  12. You look awesome! And I’m very glad to hear everything seems to be progressing nicely. I definitely plan on playing classical music for my future kids while in utero as well. Glad to see you’re enjoying it!
