Jetting Off to New York City & A Writing Wrap Up

Jetting to New York CityRecently the hubs and I were able to sneak away for a night in New York City. We were meeting with a big group of friends from hubs’ medical school class, people I haven’t seen since we lived out of the country in Grenada.

This particular group of friends all hail from the deep south, so we used to get together on Friday nights and cook southern food, anything from fried chicken to gumbo to jambalaya.

We always cooked together in the hot Grenada heat with all the doors open and no A/C. So, we all found it rather amusing that we were all dressed up at a fancy sushi restaurant in Manhattan together when just a year earlier we were all in island mode. It was definitely an expensive endeavor to meet our friends there, to hire a babysitter, go into the city, buy dinner, etc. but I wouldn’t change it for anything. In fact, I’d like to do it more often.

We’ve been getting out a lot more with the kids too now that the weather is better, and I have to say it’s a nice change from being cooped up inside. Has anyone else been getting out and about now that it’s spring?

Let me know in the comments and until then, enjoy these posts from around the web:

Kohls Princess Vera WangI just wanted to say thanks to Kohl’s who sent me a really cute black dress from the Princess Vera Wang collection that I wore to a women’s entrepreneurs event recently. They were so sweet and nice to work with, and for someone who rarely, rarely buys clothes and really needs to replace her spit up-mom wardrobe, getting a new dress in the mail was the highlight of my week.

I’ve been following Kohls on Instagram too and they seriously have the cutest spring clothes. I don’t know why anyone would ever shop at high end stores when they have high quality and affordable dresses at places like Kohls with amazing designers like Vera Wang to partner with. They are running a big sale right now if you’re interested in checking out some great deals.

  1. Thanks for the mention!

I’m surprised clothing companies aren’t knocking down your door to have you as a sponsor! You look terrific in that dress. Glad you had a good time catching up with old friends too, most of the time, that’s money well spent.

  2. Sounds like fun!

The weather has stayed a little too cold for my liking for too much outdoor fun just yet. I am looking forward to more runs and hikes when spring brings a little warmth with it

I would actually like to stay in more nights now that we’re saving up for a wedding, but everyone wants to take us out for celebratory drinks or dinner… I guess I should enjoy it while it lasts 🙂

  3. Yes since my son is a never ending ball of energy the nice weather has been amazing. He just runs around all day and then falls asleep when he gets home. It’s awesome. Glad you had a chance for a night on the town!

  4. You look very lovely with that black beautiful dress Cat! I’m not a big fan of high end stores either, for me it’s not about the brand but the quality of the clothes is really important.

  5. Sounds like you had a great time in New York. Except for the rain, I’m loving the warmer weather and I’m definitely getting out more to take advantage of it. Kohl’s always has great clothing and that dress is super cute!

  6. Glad to hear your NYC trip was so fun! That’s so nice you were able to meet up with old friends. And, I love that picture of the two of you–so cute! Also, I’m super jealous of your free Kohl’s dress! Kohl’s is basically the only place I shop for clothes other than the thrift store :).

  7. I can’t believe they sent you a dress- that is awesome! I don’t shop much these days, but when I do need something, Kohl’s is the very first place I look, because they have great prices, and I don’t have to step foot in a mall. Win-win!

Thanks for listing my post at Frugal Portland. 🙂

  8. Ahhh NYC sounds so fun!! Good for you guys!! My husband and I are in desperate need of a date night, haha!

We just got back from a trip to Boca Raton, FL with the kids (luckily my mom was visiting her family there, too!) and it was great! We’ve definitely been getting out more now that the weather is better. It’s amazing how much the weather can impact my mood. Just the simple act of being able to go for a walk now makes such a difference in my perspective on life, haha.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

  9. You look absolutely fabulous in that dress, totally rockin’ it!

Glad to see you got some time out with your hubs without the kiddos too, that’s so important. Have a great weekend Cat! 🙂

  10. What is one reason you and your hub considered to live in Grenada, not in NYC? On the other hand, it seems like you enjoyed lots of posts from other bloggers. Thanks I am gonna read some of those.

  11. Of course being in NOLA, the start of Spring means the start of festival season–many of which are free! I love going to as many as I can! We went to a food and wine fest yesterday, and then a crawfish boil. It was great! Glad you got to catch up with old friends and enjoy a fun night out!

  12. Yes, so glad that the weather is getting nice. Took our toddler to the zoo yesterday. It’s been a rough winter. He was getting tired of all the layers and I don’t blame him.
