Although her formal background is in academia and American history, a life altering move to spend three years living in the Caribbean transformed her life and her career. After selling everything and buying a one way ticket to Grenada, West Indies with her husband, Cat found herself deep in debt on a remote island with no job and no prospects. So, she began to write about her new, very budgeted life and her quest to earn an income with only a computer and an Internet connection (and okay, occasionally a piña colada on the beach too for inspiration.)
Slowly but surely, the blog she founded, catherinealford.com, became an Internet sensation, going from zero visitors each month to earning a full time income with an audience in the tens of thousands in just two years. The success of Budget Blonde served as a jumping off point to start a lucrative freelance writing career, and soon Cat had dozens of clients who paid her to create content for their financial blogs and websites.
Four years after the creation of Budget Blonde, Cat was named the Best Contributor/Freelancer for Personal Finance in 2014, and over the past few years her writing and financial expertise have been featured in dozens of notable publications like Yahoo! Finance, U.S. News and World Report, The Huffington Post, Kiplinger, Investopedia, Business Insider, and many more. She has been interviewed by Good Morning America, Mint, The Work at Home Woman, and Huffington Post Live and is a sought after speaker at universities and large conferences on topics such as motherhood, money, and entrepreneurship.
In 2014, Cat moved back to the United States, gave birth to boy/girl twins, and became a fully self-employed work at home mom. Through the trials and tribulations of balancing business with motherhood, Cat has become a trusted source and an inspiration to women who want to spend more time with their families without giving up their quest to have successful careers.
Through speaking engagements, writing, and the creation of the course Get Paid to Write for Blogs, Cat strives to teach others how to become successful, wealthy, and happy self-employed entrepreneurs and mothers without losing themselves in the process.
